A lost bag....and a big mosque!

Well, yes we have arrived, but we can't say that our trip here was "uneventful". We arrived in Buffalo for our flight and that's when it all started! Our flight was delayed about 4 hours (instead of leaving at 2:30, we left at 5:00 on a different flight) which means we missed our connection in New York City.....to make a long story short we spent the night at a hotel in NYC with no luggage....no toothbrush, no hairbrush (which was only a problem for me and not Brian), no clean clothes or underwear for that matter and meal vouchers for only $7 per person. Needless to say it dampened our enthusiasum a bit.

However, the next day, despite our 24 hour delay, we were feeling much better about our situation and eagre to get to Morocco. Our flight was delayed about 2 more hours before we took off, but at least we knew our destination was Morocco. Everything seemed to be going well until we arrived and realized Brian's luggage hadn't! So, we're here and learning to be flexible already! (and trying to get Brian's bag back). We'd appreciate your prayers regarding this!

Despite our "troubles" we were introduced to Morocco today. We spent quite a bit of time walking through the medina (old city) just observing people, taking in the sights, the sounds and the very powerful smells! We also toured the third largest mosque in the world today. The picture doesn't do it justice. This mosque holds 25 000 worshippers and is full every Friday. It was amazing to see all the detailed mosaic work all done piece by piece.

We also had our first taste of Moroccan cuisine. "Chawarma" (beef or chicken in a pita with pickles, tomatoes and some traditional spices) seems to be quite the popular food around here! It was quite good (and we're not sick!....yet!)

It's off to bed for us shortly. We're pretty exhausted after travelling for the past couple of days.

Glad you arrived safely - and pictures too - that's great. It seems you're having to learn to "go with the flow" already. We're praying Brian's bag shows up soon.
love Mom

I have also had the experience of ending up in a new country, 'sans luggage'. Keeps you on your toes, and keeps things interesting. Praying that it gets sorted. Way to blog it up so quickly! I am proud. I'll check every day so keep it up.

How many travellers can I live vicariously through? right now I'm salivating a little over the thought of chawarma's. Congratulations for surviving the first ordeal. Keep your eyes and ears and hearts open

Hey Bri, are you standing beside a picture of people canoeing? I'm surprised you guys didn't cause an international incident already...And hey, if the bag doesn't show up, I guess Brian can always go "clothing optional." Right? That'd be accepted, I'm sure...
